Methodology
How we review tools
Every DealFern guide is built the same way so you can compare tools fairly — and judge our reasoning, not just our conclusions.
1. Start from the job, not the feature list
Each guide begins with a concrete task and the kind of person doing it. We write for founders, small business owners and growing sales teams.
2. Our five criteria
| Criterion | What we look at |
|---|---|
| Fit for the job | Does the tool do the specific task well, or is it a general tool stretched to fit? |
| Results | The features that move outcomes — not the longest feature list. |
| Real pricing | Free tier limits, what you pay as you grow, and add-ons that change the math. |
| Data & trust | Data handling, exports, and how easy it is to leave. |
| Ease of use | Setup time, learning curve, integrations, and support. |
3. Sources we rely on
We read official documentation, pricing pages, terms and privacy policies, changelogs, and a broad sample of public user feedback. Where we describe hands-on use, we say so explicitly. We never invent test results or scores.
4. Updates and corrections
We revisit guides regularly and whenever a tool changes its pricing or core features. If you find an error, email us and we'll fix it and note the update date.
5. Money and independence
Some links are affiliate links. Rankings are decided before links are added, and tools without an affiliate program are included whenever they are the better choice.
